Admiring the hard work you put into your website and detailed information you present. It's good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn't the same out of date rehashed material. Fantastic read! I've bookmarked your site and I'm adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.

An even better idea IS A THIN FILM PHOTOVOLTAIC ROOF. Best technology is CIGS printed film. A combo of supercool on the old roof and BIPV thin film on any new addition would demonstrate both for the local public. The super cool roofs are easily adaptable to local row housing- cheap easy and effective.

What ever happened to Eric Eisele's super cool nano/micro sphere light scattering white roof? Retaining a roof full of storm water when it rains is a good idea, but reducing the AC load on the house 50% is a better one.

I can definitely see how the open building prototyping can fit into the Drexel Smart House. How does the idea of "disentangling" the systems work with the mission of the Drexel Smart House?

Hey guys,

I was just doing some calculations off of the information from last week and got some numbers for you.
Radient Flooring:
Using you Thermosoft System will cost from $6.76- $10.93 for the heating elements and installation. An additional $70-200 for a thermostat and $20 for a failure alarm will be needed at each location as well.

Mini Duct System:
I couldn't find much on these systems in terms of cost but after a few calculations and looking back at a few jobs relative to the DSH's size I can safely say that a system of this sort would cost anywhere from $15,000-$30,000.

Also, our focus for Monday will be proposing a cedar frame post and beam construction with a panelized wall system and SIPS. This system provides many unique features as well as green benefits that we believe will be a great choice for the addition to the smart house.

After walking around the exterior of the building with Renard this afternoon, there are a few concerns that were discovered regarding the current condition of the house which have gone unmentioned in the first few weeks of class. There is significant fire damage to the front porch and proposed entry door to the Drexel Smart House. Consequently, this will need to be replaced. Also, we may want to consider changing the entry location to the door on the west because of the fire damage. Just a thought from the standpoint that the door trim on the eastern door is torched. But maybe it can be easily matched to the other side.. Also there is significant damage to the stone facade. I'm no expert on structural integrity, but we definitely need a professional's opinion on the salvageability (i just made that word up) of the existing stone. I'm scared to go inside out of fear that more bad news will come to light.
