Current Situation
Currently the lab resides on the bottom, South-east corner of the Alumni Engineering Labs (AEL). It is accessible through Aaron Sakulich's Earth Cement Lab. The lab is quite large, approx 100 feet, by 30 feet, with 3 Environmental Chambers. It was previously used a soil lab, and as such there is still a fair amount of equipment within.
Pursuit of Funding
In order to refurbish the lab, we are seeking funding from various sources. both from within the University and from corporate sponsors. Since the lab space will be used for multi-disciplinary work, we are seeking donations from other colleges within the University as well as the College of Engineering. Discussions with Jim Tucker from the Division of Student Life and Administrative Services are ongoing for a grant of approximately $15,000. In addition, DSH has agreed to sell the naming rights for the lab to any organization which donates $250,000 or more for the lab's improvement.
Haworth has indicated that a donation of a raised modular floor system and furniture is possible. The raised floor system will allow us to use under floor ventilation, negating the need to remove the current HVAC system in the ceiling. Areas of the lab not utilizing the raised floor will be finished at no cost by ECORE International.
Below is a list of current committed lab sponsors:
- ECORE International - ECORE International converts scrap tire rubber into flooring, sound insulation, and more. They are interested in donating flooring for the lab. Their products may also be useful in house for flooring and sound insulation. Andrew Dodge, VP of Gerbert Ltd. (daughter company), is the contact.
- Haworth - Haworth is likely going to provide a raised floor for the lab and house. Their furniture would also be useful for furnishing the lab. Lisa Teman-Rosenburg, Business Development Director, is the contact.
- Bettinger West - Bettinger West is a commercial interiors company. The special in underfloor air systems. They will likely be providing an HVAC system for the lab and possibly for the house. They have close ties with Haworth. Wil Bailey is the contact.

Environmental Chambers
The 3 environmental chambers reside in a small "partitioned room", and are each different size, the largest being approx 10 feet by 5 feet. These chambers are very outdated. It is unknown whether they still work. It is known that they still receive electricity and water, as discovered by the May 12, 2007 water leak.
Major Issues
There are several major issues that must be maintained before the lab is usable.
- The lab is filthy. The lab has been unused before 10 years, and a soil lab before that. This is immediately recognizable.
- The lab has 3 minor drains, and 1 major drain, all of which are on the floor. All 4 drains are currently clogged, albeit draining slowly.
- All 4 drains have contained cockroaches, which implies that there are more within the lab. This is an obvious health and comfort risk.
- There is no HVAC system in the entire lab (including the Green Cement lab).
- The fire exit (to Chestnut St.) is locked with a padlock. This represents a fire exit risk.
Equipment in Laboratory
The lab has several pieces of equipment left in it. Any equipment that the soil people do not take can be used.
This list is INCOMPLETE
- Large table for multi-touch screen
- Two Desks
- 3 Environmental Chambers
